seeking a Systems Engineer. This position demands deep technical
knowledge and the ability to solve complex web infrastructure
challenges while supporting the enterprise's web hosting needs.to
implement, train, and provide ongoing support for assigned software
applications. The role also involves direct engagement with both
external and internal customers to ensure the effective execution
of key responsibilities.
OVERVIEW
Serves as a technical expert in web engineering, specializing in
Internet Information Services (IIS) and related web technologies,
including containerized environments. This hands-on role requires
extensive experience in designing, implementing, maintaining, and
optimizing IIS environments, web applications, and container-based
deployments. The Systems Engineer is responsible for enhancing web
server performance, ensuring high availability, and implementing
advanced security measures for IIS-based and containerized web
solutions.
The Systems Engineer will:
Establishes, oversees, and performs system checks to verify the
integrity, performance, and availability of IIS servers, web
applications, and containerized environments daily. Mentors junior
Web Engineers as required or requested.
Researches and recommends innovative, and where possible automated,
approaches for IIS administration tasks and container
orchestration.
Implements tools and processes that reduce labor and resource costs
while improving overall web service delivery.
Establishes and oversees processes to prevent, identify, and
rectify security vulnerabilities in IIS environments and
containerized applications.
Performs advanced troubleshooting for IIS and container-related
issues, leading problem-solving efforts involving outside vendors
and other support personnel.
Installs, configures, tests, and maintains IIS, web applications,
containerization platforms, and related management tools.
Identifies approaches to leverage resources and provide economies
of scale in web hosting and containerized environments.
Establishes best practices for, and performs, performance tuning,
hardware upgrades, and resource optimization for IIS and container
infrastructures.
Oversees and remediates issues discovered during security
monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing of web
applications and containers.
Ensures data backup, replication, and testing operations are
performing correctly for web content and container data.
Establishes processes to apply IIS patches, upgrades, and security
updates to web servers and containerized applications.
Actively participates in the implementation of disaster recovery
and business continuity capabilities for web services.
Creates and maintains detailed technical documentation for IIS
configurations, web applications, and container deployments.
Performs capacity monitoring and assists with short and long-term
capacity planning for web infrastructure.
Identifies and helps to gather data for Key Performance Indicators
(KPI) related to web services and container performance.
Adheres to all procedures and policies including the use of
Incident and Change Management for web infrastructure changes.
Performs on-call responsibilities and after-hours duties as
necessary for critical web service issues.
Other Duties:
Works with other departments' teams, as requested, in recommending
the required hardware and software topology for the right
deployment architecture.
Works closely with the Automation development team for deployment
and configuration management.
Contributes to the development and completion of technical
RFP's.
Project management functions including managing the installation of
new systems and other special projects.

COMPENSATION:
Salary at DSS, Inc. is determined by various factors, including but
not limited to the individual's particular combination of
education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well
as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements.
The projected compensation range for this position is $125,000.00
to $140,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents
the typical salary range for this position and is just one
component of DSS, Inc. total compensation package for
employees.
SECURITY AND PRIVACY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Individuals working for DSS will be subject to security and privacy
requirements as explained in HIPAA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800-53.
Additionally, they are required to undergo specific FedRAMP
training to ensure compliance with all associated controls and
responsibilities in the day-to-day performance of their duties.
Individuals working in departments that are considered to be in the
high risk category will be required to undergo advanced training
based on their role and level of access. Individuals with access to
modify data and the configuration baseline will require further
training.
REQUIREMENTS:
7+ years of experience administering Windows Server operating
systems.
7+ years of experience administering IIS and .NET technologies.
5+ years of experience planning and administering AWS large-scale
virtualized environments.
2+ years of experience with AWS ECS, Kubernetes, OpenShift or
similar.
Comprehensive understanding of Application Load Balancers.
Extensive experience in DNS, Routing, and Load Balancer
configuration and troubleshooting.
Advanced proficiency in WAN and LAN configuration and
troubleshooting.
Exhibits mature organization and time management skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent technical documentation and communication skills with the
ability to articulate clearly and concisely technical information
to non-technical staff, both orally and in writing.
Fluency in at least one scripting language, shell scripting, and
experience with object-oriented programming languages
Desired:
Experience developing automation tools and frameworks for
performance measurement and analysis.
Project management expertise.
Experience in running presentations to internal audiences.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree; consideration given to experience plus
education
