Job Description Nova Southeastern University – NSU Health Fort Lauderdale/Davie, Florida Nova Southeastern University (NSU), a nationally recognized R1 research university , is seeking a Billing Specialist to join our NSU Health team in Fort Lauderdale/Davie, Florida. This position plays an important role in supporting the revenue cycle by ensuring accurate and timely billing of patient services while working collaboratively with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies. Position Overview The Billing Specialist manages the billing process for NSU Health clinics, ensuring accurate claim submission, timely reimbursement, and compliance with healthcare billing regulations. This role works closely with internal departments and external payers to resolve billing issues and optimize revenue cycle efficiency. Key Responsibilities Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and government payers using appropriate coding systems (CPT, ICD-10). Generate billing metrics, collections reports, and outstanding claim reports for management review. Verify and match payments with open claims to ensure accurate account reconciliation. Monitor outstanding claims and follow up with insurance companies to resolve denials, issues, or discrepancies. Maintain accurate records of billing activities, claim submissions, and payment reports. Stay up to date with healthcare billing regulations and coding updates to ensure compliance and reduce claim denials. Collaborate with departments such as coding, patient services, and analytics to resolve billing issues and improve revenue cycle performance. Track claim rejections through clearinghouses and make corrections according to billing guidelines. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. One of the following experience combinations: High School Diploma with 6 years of healthcare billing, claims processing, or medical accounts receivable experience , OR Associate’s degree with 4 years of related experience , OR Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of related experience . Preferred Qualifications Experience with medical billing and revenue cycle processes in a healthcare environment. Familiarity with claims management software or electronic health record (EHR) systems , such as Epic or NextGen. Knowledge of payer policies and regulations, including Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance billing guidelines . Knowledge & Skills Successful candidates will demonstrate: Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication Ability to analyze billing data and resolve discrepancies Strong customer service orientation Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) Why Join Nova Southeastern University?
